Pop-upconcert - Swiss Army Wind Orchestra

Dinsdag 18 juli geeft het brass- en percussie-ensemble van het Swiss Army Wind Orchestra een pop-upconcert op de Stadhuisbrug. Dit orkest behoort tot een van de gewildste ensembles in zijn soort. Het orkest bestaat uit Zwitserse topmusici in militaire dienst die spelen onder leiding van Majoor Philippe Monnerat. De ongeveer 60 muzikanten zetten zich in om klassieke en hedendaagse blaasmuziekcomposities uit te voeren op het hoogste niveau. De meesterlijke wijze waarop dit orkest muziek interpreteert en uitvoert wordt internationaal erkend.

Deze activiteit vindt plaats in het kader van het WASBE International Symphonic Wind Band Festival en wordt mede mogelijk gemaakt door ZIMIHC, Wens Travel en WASBE, met dank aan gemeente Utrecht.

On Tuesday, July 18, the brass and percussion ensemble of the Swiss Army Wind Orchestra is set to give a pop-up concert at Stadhuisbrug. This orchestra is one of the most popular ensembles of its kind, consisting of Swiss top musicians in military service who play under the baton of Major Philippe Monnerat. The approximately 60 musicians strive to perform classical and modern symphonic wind music compositions at the highest level. The orchestra is internationally renowned for the magnificent way in which it interprets and performs symphonic wind music.

Short biography of the conductor
Philippe Monnerat, born in 1967, obtained his orchestra diploma at the Conservatory in Basel. He studied the trumpet with Mario Populin and Eduard Tarr and conducting with Felix Hauswirth. Afterwards, he consolidated his studies in Paris with Pierre Thibaud. In 1996, he won a prize at the Swiss Conductors’ Competition in Baden. Major Philippe Monnerat has been working at the Centre of Competence for Military Bands since 1999, today he is head of training support. From 2007 to 2013 he was in charge of conducting the Swiss Army Brass Band. In 2013, Philippe Monnerat became conductor of the Symphonic Wind Orchestra. In his free time, he conducts the Suberg Grossaffoltern Music Association.

This activity is part of the WASBE International Symphonic Wind Band Festival, which is organized by ZIMIHC, Wens Travel, WASBE and supported by Utrecht city council.
